Mary Alice Reed
Mary Alice Reed, 95, passed away at home March 2, 2026, surrounded by her loving family, just as she wished.
She was born May 10, 1930, to the late Richard and Mary (Williams) Myers of Richmond.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, George E. Reed Sr., whom she married Aug. 16, 1947; Robert K. Moore, whom she married in September 2002; and Alden Steitz, whom she married in May 2010; her daughter, Karen “Janie” McClain; her daughters-in-law, Connie (Ronnie) Reed and Linda (George) Reed; her son-in-law, George (Patricia) Eshbaugh; seven brothers and five sisters; her grandchildren, Ella Jo (Reed) McNay, Ian W. Cornish, Dylan Ludt and Ronald K. Workman; and a great-grandchild, Jackson Lindsay.
She loved her children and grandchildren beyond measure. Her greatest joy was cuddling a baby. She was a caregiver through and through, with a special heart for the elderly and anyone in need, selfless in her service to others and never expecting anything in return.
Her days at Forester Nursing Home brought her tremendous fulfillment while establishing friendships. She loved country music and taught herself to play her father’s guitar at an early age. In her 80s, she and a friend started the “Country Jam” at the Bergholz Fire Hall, which grew to attract more than 100 attendees monthly from surrounding areas. She loved to travel and never met a stranger.
Mary is survived by her children, George E. Reed Jr., Ronald L. Reed, Patricia A. Eshbaugh, Constance L. (Bill) Stewart, Anna M. (Bruce) Grimm, Kathy L. Gill, Pamala J. (Brian) Schmitt, Robin R. (Jennifer) Reed, Ruth E. Lyons and Mary Beth (Bill) Miller; her sister, Anna Dellar; her brother, Rickie Myers; her special and loving friend, Joseph Kmatz; 46 grandchildren; 83 great-grandchildren; and 22 great-great-grandchildren.
The family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff of Valley Hospice for their kindness and care.
