Harold Eldwin Campbell, 80, of Dayton, Virginia and more recently of Fredericksburg, Ohio passed away peacefully at LifeCare Hospice in Wooster on May 24, 2026.

Eldwin was born December 10, 1945, to the late Harold and Bertha (Yutzy) Campbell near Ladd, Virginia.

He was drafted during the Vietnam War and chose to serve under the PAX program in The Congo for 2 years, working with Angolan refugees.

On August 1, 1970, Eldwin married Vera Rose Heatwole who survives. The couple was blessed to adopt two children from El Salvador. Krista Joy joined the family in 1977 and Randall Lynn in 1979.

Eldwin was ordained as a minister, and later bishop, serving in the West Rockingham District of Southeastern Mennonite Conference in Rockingham County Virginia. Church work in Nova Scotia and Caswell, North Carolina were highlights of ministry work.

He was a printer for much of his life, working at Park View Press, then operating Campbell Copy Center from 1977 to 2005. The last years of his life brought him back to working in a print shop, Holmes Printing Solutions, where he was a blessing to many.

Eldwin was deeply dedicated, first of all to the Lord and also to his family, loving each one fervently. His oft repeated motto was “God is good.”

Eldwin and Vera Rose moved to Ohio in 2018 to live near their daughter and her family. After their move they joined the Zion Conservative Mennonite Church in Benton. He will be greatly missed by his family, church, and many friends.

In addition to his parents, Eldwin was preceded in death by a brother, Brenard Campbell and sister, Arline (Campbell) Heatwole.

He is survived by his wife of almost 56 years, Vera Rose; a daughter, Krista (Lonnie) Yoder of Fredericksburg, Ohio; a son, Randall (Lisa) Campbell of Dayton, Virginia; brothers, Ruel (Pat) Campbell of Check, Virginia; Boyd (Velma) Campbell of Arcadia, Florida; Eugene (Cleora) Campbell of Flat Gap, Kentucky; Orlin (Eileen) Campbell of Linville, Virginia; John Paul (Catherine) Campbell of Edinburg, Virginia; a sister, Catherine (Matthew) Shoemaker of New Market, Virginia; a sister-in-law, Becky Campbell; a brother-in-law, Mark Heatwole; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Eldwin had a lifelong enjoyment of meeting people and now in his death his message and desire would be the same: meet me in Heaven where partings and sickness will be no more.
