Kenneth Sigler

Spike Sigler

Kenneth Lee “Spike” Sigler, 87, of Shreve, passed away after an extended illness on Monday, April 27 at Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare in Wooster surrounded by his family and friends.

He was born in Wooster on May 23, 1938, to the late Harold and Ruth Irene (Weiker) Sigler. Spike was a graduate of the Class of 1956 of BPHS where he played baseball and continued to play after high school on the Shreve league.

He then proudly served in the National Guard at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri. He married the love of his life Carolyn Sue Bailes on October 12, 1971, and she survives. They would’ve celebrated 55 years together this fall.

Spike was a hard worker all his life, starting with when he was a child picking strawberries and transporting them on his little red wagon and delivering them to Harry and Mary Jones’ Grocery Store in Shreve. He had numerous jobs throughout his life but found his home with Columbia Gas as a well tender, retiring after 25 years of service.

Spike was a member of the H.O.G. Harley Owners Group. He was an absolute Harley enthusiast. Spike owned several Harley’s throughout the years since the age of 16. Together, Spike and Carolyn traveled most of the country on their Harley-Davidson from Florida to Maine to Wyoming and Colorado, attending all the major Harley events, anniversaries and rallies pulling their popup camper.

One of their favorites being the Run for the Fun from Milwaukee to Rapid City which they led. They loved spending their winters in Florida at Wickham Park in Melbourne where they helped plan many activities and hosted some. They made so many lifelong friends wherever their journeys took them.

He enjoyed bowling, which they both did together, at the Shreve bowling alley. He loved OSU and Cleveland Browns football, as well as a huge fan of the Cleveland Guardians.

He was proud of his farm where he grew crops and raised Hereford beef cattle. His ornery spirit and sense of humor will be missed by all.

Surviving in addition to his wife, is a daughter, Angie (Giovanni) Smith of Metter, Georgia; and a granddaughter, Gianna Smith, also of Metter, Georgia; sister, Ginny Spitler of Shreve; brother-in-law, Tom Weigand of Nashville; Brother-in-law, Jack Bailes (Mary Thornton) of Gallipolis, along with a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his precious son Scott Sigler; brothers, Roger Sigler and Lester Sigler; a sister, Linda Weigand; and in-laws Ed and Hilda (Strickland) Bailes of Gallipolis, Ohio.

Friends will be received Wednesday, May 6 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Schlabach Funeral Home, 212 Jones St., Shreve. There will also be a gathering at a later date at the Shreve American Legion at the convenience of the family. Schlabach Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
