Holmes County announces 2026 paving plan

Project marks final year of 10-year county road paving cycle

Several Holmes County byways will get a facelift with new pavement being poured beginning this summer. The county engineer's office has released the county roads that will be under construction.

The Holmes County Engineer’s Office has announced the roads included in the 2026 paving plan: County Road 53 (2.2 miles), County Road 160 (6.8 miles), County Road 189 (4.6 miles), County Road 200 (5.2 miles), County Road 292 (5.1 miles) and County Road 621 (0.2 miles).

“The 2026 paving program is the last year of the full 10-year paving cycle that began in 2017 with the approval of the 0.25 percent sales tax for roads here in Holmes County,” said Chief Deputy Engineer Josh Galbraith. “All 250 miles of county roads will have been repaved by the end of this year’s paving program. This was the promise that was made to the people of Holmes County, and I’m very happy to report we were able to deliver it.”

Through the competitive bid process used each year for the paving program, Melway Paving in Holmesville was awarded the paving contract for 2026.

“Per Ohio law, we must go through a competitive bidding process to ensure we get the best value for the taxpayers’ money,” Galbraith said. “We are fortunate to have a quality paving company right here in Holmes County that had the most competitive bid. It’s always a great thing when we are able to spend these tax dollars right here in our Holmes County community.”

Melway Paving has already begun work on the 2026 paving project. County Road 200 has already been resurfaced. Resurfacing will begin on all the other roads in four to six weeks, with centerline and edge line painting being completed shortly after each road is paved.
