The Wayne-Holmes Softball Association and its sponsors will present the Wayne-Holmes All-Star Game June 8 at Triway Softball Field.

The event, now in its sixth year, will feature a modified format with one game pitting seniors against underclassmen. Rosters have been expanded to 17 seniors and 16 underclassmen, and the game is scheduled for nine innings or until darkness. Most Valuable Player honors will be selected after the game from both teams.

Events will begin at 4:30 p.m. with the announcement of the Gold Glove Awards as voted on by their peers, the awarding of the association’s first scholarship and the Home Run Derby.

More than 100 ballots were cast for the Gold Glove Awards from across Holmes, Wayne and Ashland counties. For the scholarship seniors were asked to write about what softball has meant to them, with the winner receiving a $1,000 scholarship and the winning essay to be published in The Bargain Hunter.

The Home Run Derby will feature Norwayne senior Riley Gwinn, Dalton junior and reigning champion Lily Teague, and Triway second baseman Lexi Long in Pool A. Pool B will include West Holmes senior Briar Cline, Tuslaw’s Hadley Porter and Norwayne junior MaKenna Heyden. The winners of each pool will advance to the finals.

The senior roster will be led by Northwestern coach Scott Hershey. The underclassmen will be coached by Norwayne’s Bree Robinson, the Wayne County Athletic League Coach of the Year.
