Wayne County pop-up pantry set for June 9
Monthly event will include food assistance and agency information
The Wayne County Health Department, in collaboration with the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank, will host its next monthly pop-up food pantry from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 9 in the parking lot of the WCHD’s offices, 244 W. South St., Wooster. This pantry will be market style, and assistance will be available for those with mobility issues.
“We served over 100 families in May," said Nick Cascarelli, Wayne County health commissioner. "While we are happy to continue to serve our community in this way, it underscores the fact that many Wayne County residents need food. We also will have representatives of many agencies present with information."
Individuals and families can receive food if their income is at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level ($31,920 per year for individuals and adding $11,360 per year for each additional family member). For example, a family of four whose annual household income is $66,000 or less would be eligible.
The health department asks anyone attending the food pantry not to park in the United Way or Wayne Center for the Arts parking lots, as those spots are needed for their clients, employees and visitors. Those attending should park in the lot between the health department and United Way.
Anyone interested in volunteering to help with the pop-up pantry can call the Wayne County Health Department at 330-264-9590 ext. 207.
