Donald Lee Brown
Donald (Donny) Lee Brown, 73, of Newcomerstown passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, May 15, 2026.
Don was born on July 26, 1952, in Coshocton, Ohio, to the late Cecil and Gladys Brown of Newcomerstown. He grew up in Newcomerstown, Ohio, and graduated from Newcomerstown High School, class of 1971.
Don was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle who deeply loved his family and friends. Known for his great sense of humor, Don always had a way of brightening the day of those around him. He and his wife attended Water’s Edge Assembly of God in Newark, Ohio.
Don enjoyed working with young people throughout the years. Alongside his brother, David, he assisted in leading local Boy Scout troops, helping guide and support many young men through their scouting experiences. He also coached junior high football in Newcomerstown for a few years, where he enjoyed getting to know his players and teaching them the skills and lessons he had learned over the years. His dedication to mentoring and coaching left a lasting impression on many in the community.
A skilled craftsman in carpentry and masonry, Don took great pride in his work and the businesses he built throughout his life. After briefly working at Alsco-Anaconda following high school, he went on to establish his own businesses, D.L. Brown Construction and Classic Woodworks, which he proudly operated in partnership with his nephew, Edward Everhart. Following a brief time with The Baker Hughes Company, he founded Eagle Valley Wood Designs, where he concluded his career, creating beautiful custom cabinetry that reflect his talent, dedication, and passion for craftsmanship.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Laurna Brown; his three children, Johnathan (Becky) Zufelt, Nathan (Kristin) Zufelt, and Cecilia (Reshad) Brown; his grandchildren, Austin (Aly) Zufelt, Sydni (Ryan) Stevens, Maddy and Calvin Zufelt, and his grand dog, Atlas, his great-grandchildren, Josie, Vivi, and Ruby Zufelt, Haisley Stevens; his sisters, Georgina Meeks, Kathy Everhart, and Patty McClure, along with many nieces and nephews, and many respected friends that he loved dearly.
Along with his parents, Don was preceded in death by his bothers, Robby Brown and David Brown.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 7, 2026, from 2 to 4 at the Christ Methodist Church. 648 Oak St, Newcomerstown, Ohio, 43832. If you would like to send stories and memories about Don at any time, please email them to dlbrown0726@gmail.com where they will be read and treasured by his family.
