Coshocton County EMS marks 50 years

The anniversary coincides with National EMS Week as the county seeks former volunteers and employees for an open house later this year

EMS Week is presented each year by the American College of Emergency Physicians in partnership with the National Association of EMTs. The theme for this year’s EMS Week is "Improving Outcomes, Together."

National EMS Week started May 17. President Gerald Ford first authorized EMS Week in 1974 as an opportunity to recognize emergency medical services providers for the important work they do in communities.

EMS Week is presented each year by the American College of Emergency Physicians in partnership with the National Association of EMTs. The theme for this year’s EMS Week is "Improving Outcomes, Together," which recognizes the critical role filled by emergency medical services in the nation’s health care system.

Emergency medical services are available 24/7, providing life-saving care in emergencies while also filling gaps in the health care system by providing nonemergent out-of-hospital care, preventive medicine and follow-up care.

This year Coshocton County EMS celebrates its 50th anniversary. On Feb. 16, 1976, the newly formed emergency squads in Coshocton and Keene joined with the Warsaw and West Lafayette emergency squads to create the county EMS system.

So much has changed over the years. With advances in EMS technology, medications and procedures, EMS brings the emergency room to your living room.

The 50th anniversary here in Coshocton County would not have been possible without the support of the community and the hundreds of volunteer and paid EMTs and paramedics who served the community over the years. A 50th anniversary and open house is being planned for later this year. Current staff would like to recognize all previous volunteers and employees with CCEMS as part of the celebration.
