Leon Smith
Leon Smith, age 85, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on May 18, 2026 peacefully in the presence of those he loved the most.
Born on September 5, 1940, in Cincinnati, Ohio, later moving and living his entire adult life in the city he loved, Millersburg, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his mother, June, and sister, Maryellen. Leon was a devoted uncle to his niece Patty (Kirk), and great-uncle to Katie and Kyle.
Also leaving behind are his loving caregivers and the staff of the HCBDD, who he considered his family, especially Stephanie (“is she here yet? if you know, you know), MaryBeth, Katrin, Tera, Paiten, Lisa, Lori, and Jordan, the entire staff at the Holmes County Home who provided such loving care, as well as his dear friends Mary, Angela, and his friends at The Sunshine Villas. You all filled his life with such joy.
Leon was a dedicated and hard worker, working for 15 years for Castle Nursing Homes, 30 years for LHI, having proudly earned an Employee of the Year Award, and finally celebrating his well-deserved retirement at the age of 80.
He was known for his love of going to Bob Evans and the movies, watching westerns, and was an avid artist. He loved playing 500 rummy, and his mischievous laugh and funny faces he made before winning will be forever etched on our hearts.
Leon will forever be remembered for his sweet nature, kind words, and above all else, his childlike faith and love of Jesus Christ. At Leon’s request, there will be no public funeral or memorial service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Holmes County Home, 7260 State Route 83, Holmesville, Ohio.
