Holmes County District Public Library plans full May schedule
Activities for all ages to be offered throughout the month
The Holmes County District Public Library has announced its lineup of events and programs for May, offering activities for children, teens and adults across its branches.
Storytime programs will be held at multiple locations throughout the month. The Killbuck Library will host storytime at 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays, May 5 and 12. The Central Library will offer storytime at 10:30 a.m. Fridays, May 1, 8 and 15, while the East Branch will host sessions at 10:30 a.m. Wednesdays, May 6, 13, 20 and 27. These programs are open to children ages 2 to 5 with a parent or caregiver and include stories, songs and rhymes. Registration is not required.
The Central Library will also host Little Learners Playgroup at 11 a.m. Fridays, May 1, 8 and 15. The program is open to children up to age 5 and their caregivers and features hands-on activities designed to promote reading and social skills. Snacks will be provided, and registration is not required.
Paws to Read will take place from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 9, in the Children’s Department at the Central Library. Participants can read to therapy dogs from Caring Therapy Canines. The program is first come, first served, and registration is not required.
A Patriotic Star Craft program for adults will be held from 2-5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 14, at the Central Library. An OSU Extension educator will guide participants in creating a patriotic star using wooden clothespins. Registration is required.
Two adult book club sessions are scheduled for Tuesday, May 26, at the Central Library. The 1 p.m. session will discuss “Miss Benson’s Beetle” by Rachel Joyce, and the 6 p.m. session will discuss “Too Old for This” by Samantha Downing. Books are available for pickup at the Central Library help desk, and new members are welcome.
The library’s Summer Reading Program, themed “Unearth a Story,” will begin with registration opening Friday, May 29. The program will run from June 1 through July 25 and is open to children, teens and adults, who can track their reading for a chance to win prizes.
A Summer Reading Kickoff event will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, May 29, at the Central Library. The event will include activities throughout the day such as a dinosaur craft for children, a scavenger hunt, photo opportunities, prize drawings, giveaways and free ice cream.
