Paul S. Morton
Paul S. Morton, MD, age 90, passed away at his home on April 30, 2026, after a two-year battle with acute myelogenous leukemia.
He was born in Freeport, Ohio in 1935, attended Freeport schools, and went to Oberlin College on a Ford Foundation Scholarship, graduating in 1955. He graduated from The Ohio State University College of Medicine in 1959 and completed four years of post-graduate training, first at Los Angeles General Hospital in Los Angeles, California and then at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Morton practiced Internal Medicine in Franklin County from 1963 to 2001, apart from two years of service in the United States Army Medical Corps. After "failing retirement" he worked part time for Social Security Disability. Paul brought his lifelong love of learning and teaching into retirement at Westminster-Thurber, where he helped host a wide variety of guest speakers to address fellow residents.
Paul shared his love of golf with his children, who grew up on The Ohio State University Golf Courses, where he was a member for 55 years.
Preceded in death by his father, Paul Wesley Morton, and his mother, Alice Hayhurst Morton, Paul is survived by his wife, Jane Ann McBride Morton; children, David Paul Morton (Katie Byrne) and Sarah Jane Morton (Ron DiCapio); one grandchild, David's daughter, Elise Sarah Morton (Grant Roeder); and his sister, Corley Anne Byras.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 15, 2026, at 1 p.m. at Covenant Presbyterian Church, where Paul’s family joined the congregation in 1980. A reception will follow the service until 3PM.
Burial will be the following day at the church cemetery adjacent to Antrim Presbyterian Church, 19955 Cadiz Road, Quaker City, Ohio 43773, where Paul married the love of his life almost 67 years ago. Family and friends in the Freeport and Antrim communities are invited to attend the grave-side service on May 16 at 1 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church (2070 Ridgecliff Road, Columbus, Ohio 43221) or Antrim Presbyterian Church (19955 Cadiz Road, Quaker City, Ohio 43773).
