The official count of votes cast at the May primary election did not change the election results in Carroll County, except for an increase of 30 to an official total of 3,097, which included 2,188 Republicans and 909 Democrats.
Several members of the senior class at Carrollton High School participated in a mock trial set up by Mary Frame, CHS government teacher, and Carroll County Common Pleas Court Judge Frank F. Cope at the Carroll County Courthouse.
The Carrollton Warriors downed Lakeland 15-0 when Larry Vahalik, a sophomore, pitched a no-hitter, facing only 25 batters and striking out seven during his seven innings.

C. Arthur Webster, a longtime employee of the Carrollton Post Office, retired after 40 years of service.
In state music competition at Stanton High School, the Malvern High School girls chorus, under the direction of Shirley Columbo, received a superior rating, earning straight I’s from the performance judges.
Carrollton senior speedster Rick Burns won the 100-yard dash in the Senate League track meet held at Claymont, where he was the league’s fastest.

Democrat Russell Barrett won his party’s race for Carroll County commissioner to face Thomas Cummings, a Republican, in the November 1986 general election.
Co-recipients of the John Philip Sousa Award as members of the Minerva High School band were seniors Julie Tomlinson and Vicki Crown.
Beth Johnson pitched her first no-hitter in shutting out the Timken Trojans 10-0.

Donna Tucker, retired postmaster of the Augusta Post Office, was the subject of a feature story in the May 9, 1996, issue of The FPS, representing four generations of the Kinsey family who served as postal employees over 75 years.
Jason Marteney and Monica McNutt, both members of the Carrollton High School FFA chapter, received their State Farmer Degree at the 1996 Ohio FFA Association convention in Columbus.
Larry Rutledge of Dellroy and Bill Stoneman of Carrollton ran in the 100th Boston Marathon, which included more than 38,000 runners covering 26 miles, 385 yards.

Sara Mangun and Andrew Button reigned as queen and king at Carrollton High School’s 2006 junior-senior prom. Nehemiah Preston, a senior at CHS, was the subject of a feature story when he wore a duct tape suit, complete with top hat and red-tipped “duck boots.”
Beaulah McFarland was the subject of a feature story on her 91 years of living with “positive thinking” and not dwelling on the past.
Carrollton High School’s Lady Warriors won all three of their games — all by shutouts — including a no-hitter by junior pitcher Ally Lowdermilk.
