Minerva launches village emergency alert system
Residents can sign up for text and email notices about severe weather, road closures and utility issues
The Village of Minerva has launched a new emergency alert system that allows residents to receive important notifications by text message and email.
The notification system, powered by Everbridge, is designed to help village officials quickly communicate information about emergencies, severe weather, road closures, utility issues and other situations affecting the community.
Discussion about implementing the system began last winter, with Minerva Village Council approving the program in February 2026. Village Administrator Greg Mytinger said several months were spent setting up the system, training staff and preparing marketing materials before the service was introduced to residents.
“We are extremely excited to offer this service to the residents of Minerva,” Mytinger said.
The new system will allow village officials to send notifications directly to residents' phones and email accounts, helping ensure important information reaches the community quickly.
“The new Emergency Alert System helps ensure we can get important information out to our residents in a timely and efficient manner,” Mytinger said.
Alerts may be issued for a variety of situations, including road closures, water main breaks, parking bans, emergency weather notifications and other urgent community updates.
Village officials said the service is intended to provide residents with a dependable source of information during situations that may affect travel, public safety or village services. Whether residents are dealing with severe weather, a road closure or a utility-related issue, the notification system is designed to deliver updates directly to subscribers as information becomes available.
Mytinger said the system's ability to rapidly distribute information is one of its greatest benefits.
“Within minutes, once the information is provided to the village,” he said when asked how quickly alerts can be sent after officials become aware of an emergency or road closure.
Village officials are encouraging residents to enroll in the service to stay informed about situations that could affect their daily activities and safety.
Residents have several options for enrolling in the program. They can register through the Everbridge portal available on the village website, download the Everbridge app and search for the Village of Minerva, or text 44657 to 888777 to receive text notifications.
Mytinger encouraged residents who are unsure about signing up to take advantage of the free service, noting that it provides a direct line of communication from village officials during emergencies and other situations that may affect the community.
