Fight the good fight of faith
In some areas of our culture, we have allowed compromise and evil to dictate how we spiritually and morally live
1 Timothy 6:12 — “Fight the good fight of faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called, and you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.”
Our God is not weak. Jesus does not back down in a fight or cower from the enemy, and he does not quietly walk away from a righteous challenge or responsibility. Christian, he expects no less from his people than fighting the good fight of faith.
The word “fight” in this context means to contend and struggle with danger. In some areas of our culture, we have allowed compromise and evil to dictate, to a certain extent, how we spiritually and morally live. Christian, we need to fight back for the glory of God, our churches, our families and our culture.
How do we win? Christ won the war 2,000 years ago by dying on a cross and rising from the dead, but now he commands that we fight the remaining battles in his strength.
We fight by seeking God in confession and repentance for not taking responsibility in our culture where it was needed. We fight by putting sin to death in our own lives while turning away from hypocrisy. We fight by asking the Holy Spirit to fill us, taking time to be biblically literate and making the Bible’s worldview our worldview while seeking God in prayer.
We fight by being lovingly bold in our proclamation of the Gospel (1 Corinthians 15:3-4). Speak the truth in love consistently. One soul at a time won for Christ equals kingdom change in our culture. We fight by standing up against all things that go against biblical truth. We fight by daily discipling our children and grandchildren. We fight by not allowing extracurricular events to excessively keep families from corporate worship (Hebrews 10:25).
We fight by men being men of God — leaving behind childlike pursuits, leading their homes and churches, teaching their sons to be men of Christ, teaching their daughters the value of being women of God, loving their wives as Christ sacrificially loved the church and being a major threat to evil.
We fight by women being the women of God that Jesus has called them to be — teaching younger women and children the things of the Lord, having a strong testimony of Christ and being strong in the Lord.
We fight the good fight of faith in faith, hope and love rooted in Christ.
Christian, repent where needed, believe that Christ can work in your sphere of influence and fight in his power and might.
