Harrison Central boys place third at Buckeye 8 championships
Harrison Central boys finished in third place, while the Husky girls finished in 11th
Tuesday, April 21, Buckeye Local High School was the site of the 2025 Buckeye 8 Track and Field Championships. On the boys side of the competition, 11 of the conference’s schools were involved. Barnesville did not compete. On the girls side, 12 schools were present. The Harrison Central boys finished in third place, while the Husky girls finished in 11th.
Top performers on the day for Harrison Central athletes included 100 meters: first, Jakob Quito (11.62); 200 meters: first, Quito (22.96); and the 4x400-meter relay: first, Beau Rinkes, Brady Hyre, Triston Cole and Quito (3:29.96).
The order of finish and point accumulation in the boys events were St. Clairsville 131, Beaver Local 111, Harrison Central 85, East Liverpool 64, Cambridge 58, Bellaire 50, Barnesville 49, Martins Ferry 41, Union Local 41, Brooke 27 and Indian Creek 6.
In the girls events, St. Clairsville emerged once again as first with 102 points. The balance of the field was Barnesville 102, Cambridge 98, Indian Creek 66, Union Local 60, Bellaire 60, Beaver Local 49, Martins Ferry 44, Buckeye Local 32, Brooke 24, Harrison Central 14 and East Liverpool 12.
“The boys placed third overall in the Buckeye 8 Track Meet,” boys head coach Luke Turner said. “This meet had great competition, which pushed our team to multiple season-best performances.”
“Jakob Quito won the 100- and 200-meter dash. The 4x4 team of Beau Rinkes, Brady Hyre, Triston Cole and Jakob Quito also placed first with a season-best time, dropping more than 5 seconds (3:29.96).
“It’s pleasing and exciting to see all the athletes’ hard work and dedication pay off and return to them with personal-best performances,” Turner said.
Following the track meet are the individual event performances by the Harrison Central boys and girls teams.
Boys events: 100 meters: first, Jakob Quito (11.62); 18th, Brody McCabe (12.97). 200 meters: first, Quito (22.96); fourth, Bray Hyre (23.93). 400 meters: second, Triston Cole (52.34); 12th, Hunter Fulton (59.61). 800 meters: eighth, Noah Thaxton (2:17); 14th, Bently Slocum (2:21.47). 1,600 meters: 11th, Thaxton (4:57.24); 21st, Braison Welch (5:58.88). 3,200 meters: 12th, Michael Abel (11:39.09); 16th, Bryce Sobleski (12:44.22). 110-meter hurdles: fourth, Beau Rinkes (17.13); 14th, Chaz Culbertson (20.59). 300-meter hurdles: 12th, Culbertson (49.45); 12th, Waylon Hodkinson (52.29). 4x100 relay: eighth, Fulton, Jaden Harris, Culbertson and Chase Byers (47.15). 4x200-meter relay: second, Quito, Rinkes, Cole and Hyre (1:33). 4x400-meter relay: first, Rinkes, Hyre, Cole and Quito (3:29.96). 4x800 relay: seventh, McCabe, Slocum, Abel and Thaxton. Shot put: second, Dylan Walters (53-1); 19th, Grant Thaxton (36-4). Discus: seventh, Nate Dulkoski (126-0); 19th, G. Thaxton (99-1). High jump: sixth, Hyre (5-10); 11th, Cole (NH). Pole vault: second, Trenten Allison (11-6); fifth, Chase Smith (11-0). Long jump: fifth, Olin Wade (16-3.5); 18th, Hodkinson (15-7.5).
Girls events: 100 meters: ninth, Leanna Scott (14.62); 17th, Madison Taylor (15.15). 200 meters: 30th, Ellah Amaismeier (31.76); Scott (DNS). 400 meters: Grace Miller (1:10.60); 19th, Savanah Bates (1:31.53). 800 meters: Emily Cope (2:41.61); 30th, Hannah Grady (2:59.39). 1,600 meters: 30th, Aubrie Moss (7:58.38). 3,200 meters: N/A. 100-meter hurdles: 12th, Teagan Parks (19.27). 300-meter hurdles: 10th, Parks (55.70); Aubrey Coffman (DNS). 4x100-meter relay: 10th, Haylee Kelley, Kim Eikleberry, Amelia Puskarich and Leah Grady (1:01.72). 4x200 relay: 11th, Amaismeier, Miller, Taylor and Scott (2:01.39). 4x400 relay: N/A. 4x800 relay: seventh, Cope, H.
