Harrison County Fair plans Cookies, Crafts and Curiosities entries
Entry forms and the fairbook are available at Harrisoncountyfairohio.com and at local businesses
The countdown is on to the 2026 Harrison County Fair, which will be held June 22-27. Fairgoers are invited to see the updates and improvements on the fairgrounds.
Cookies, Crafts and Curiosities updates include a new addition in the baked goods and confections category: decorated cakes and cupcakes. Those who enjoy decorating cupcakes can enter 12 cupcakes on a plate, with three additional cupcakes for display.
Dessert of the Fair is a dessert, such as a cake, pie, cookie or other dessert, made with any berry or combination of berries. Only Dessert of the Fair is required to have berries as an ingredient.
The top prize for Dessert of the Fair is $100. Other classes pay $10 for first place and $5 for second. Youth are encouraged to enter and will have their own classes except for Dessert of the Fair, which is open to all ages in one class.
In the fine arts category, the photography division has 11 classes. Photos must be 8-by-10 inches and framed. Photo of the Fair must be of one of the three lakes in Harrison County: Tappan, Piedmont or Clendening. The photo may be from any season or any time of day. For 2026, in memory of Ed Shumaker, a local photographer from Scio, organizers are looking for photos with a patriotic theme.
Those with a patriotic item in a closet, attic or garage may enter it in the antiques and collectibles category under the special division. The item may be any age. There also are categories for any type of antiques and collectibles.
A patriotic floral arrangement is new in the floriculture category. Entrants may submit a red, white and blue arrangement of their own design. Live or silk arrangements are welcome.
There also are classes for pottery, Legos, sewing and art of all types.
This is the third year for Bucket of Junk entries. Past entries have ranged from a fair scene made with various items to a cow and pig made from air tanks. This year entries should be mobile, using a wagon, wheelbarrow or anything with wheels, for example. Participants are encouraged to use their imagination to create something from recycled or junk items. Extra points will be awarded if the entry has a plant holder of any size. Local gift cards will be awarded to the top three winners.
Entries may be made by email at harrisonfairentry@gmail.com or in person at the Senior Fair Office during office hours. The deadline for entries is 6 p.m. Sunday, June 21. There is no entry fee.
Entries will be received in the office Sunday and Monday until 6 p.m. Items for the baked goods and confections division may be delivered to the Fair Office Monday, June 22 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Tuesday, June 23 from 9-11 a.m. Judging for baked goods will begin at noon Tuesday.
The baked and canned goods auction will be held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 25 in the 4-H Building. Participants are asked to take part in the auction, as proceeds will support the Cookies, Crafts and Curiosities Department. Those who do not want an entry sold should write “Do Not Sell” on the entry form.
Entry forms and the fairbook are available at Harrisoncountyfairohio.com and at local businesses.
