At a special May 14 meeting of the Conotton Valley Board of Education, the appointment of a board member from the previous week was rescinded.
Joshua Garbrandt had been appointed at a special meeting May 5, but the Carroll County Board of Elections determined the following morning that Garbrandt did not meet the eligibility requirement of being a registered voter for 30 days.
Superintendent John Zucal said he appreciated Garbrandt’s willingness to serve as a board member. The board unanimously voted to rescind the appointment.
At the May 14 meeting, Nathan Pounds, who was present at the May 5 meeting, was appointed as the district’s fifth member. His term expires Dec. 31, 2027.
Pounds is a 2002 graduate of Claymont High School who now lives in Sherrodsville with his wife, Marcy, a 1994 graduate of Conotton. A pharmacist for the past 18 years, Pounds is employed by Alliance Family Health Center.
Pounds said serving as a board member “was always something that I have wanted to do, but my work schedule didn’t allow it.” He has volunteered at Conotton for the past three years as a football statistician and said he feels fortunate to be able to “give back to the community” where he lives.
The final item on the special meeting agenda was to modify the 2026 meeting schedule as originally set at the January organizational meeting.
The board unanimously voted to change meeting nights to the third Thursday of each month. Meetings will still be held at 7 p.m. in the administrative conference room.
The next regular meeting of the Conotton Valley Board of Education will be held Thursday, May 21.
