Senate passes bill honoring Trooper Cayton
A graduate of Carrollton High School, Cayton served in the Ohio Army National Guard before beginning a 13-year career with the Ohio State Highway Patrol
The Ohio Senate unanimously passed Senate Bill 365, sponsored by state Sen. Al Cutrona, R-Canfield, to designate a portion of state Route 11 in Mahoning County as the Trooper Nicholas P. Cayton Memorial Highway.
“I’m proud to see the Senate recognize the service and sacrifice of Trooper Nicholas Cayton,” Cutrona said. “While this honor cannot fill the void left by his passing, this memorial will be an ever-present reminder of the legacy to duty and service Trooper Cayton provided to his nation and community.”
Cayton, of the Canfield Post, died Oct. 16 after being struck by a semitruck while in his cruiser on state Route 11 as he assisted a disabled commercial vehicle.

The bill now heads to the Ohio House of Representatives for further consideration.
