Historical society to meet May 18 in Minerva
The May meeting will be the final scheduled public gathering before the society’s summer recess
The Minerva Area Historical Society will hold its next meeting May 18 at the Minerva Public Library.
The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. at the library, 677 Lynwood Drive. Organizers noted the meeting is being held one week earlier than usual because of the Memorial Day holiday.
Members of the Great Trail Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will present the program, discussing the organization’s work and highlighting local Revolutionary War soldiers. The presentation will include information about Edward Stacy Whitacre Sr. and other veterans buried in area cemeteries.
The May meeting will be the final scheduled public gathering before the society’s summer recess.
The Haas Museum, operated by the historical society, will remain open throughout the summer Wednesdays from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and during special downtown events, including Second Fridays from 5-8 p.m.
Organizers said the museum will feature exhibits highlighting current Minerva businesses and their history as part of activities tied to the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary.
The museum is located at 128 N. Market St. in a historic former bank building. Officials said the building’s exterior has recently been cleaned and murals on the structure are expected to be recoated.
Light refreshments will be served at the meeting.
