Dig into good stories and explore the past with the library this summer as we celebrate the 2026 Summer Reading Program Unearth a Story. All ages are invited and encouraged to participate in the program, which will run Wednesday, May 27 through Thursday, July 23.

Our summer reading kickoff celebration will be held Tuesday, May 26 at the Coshocton Community Room. Stop in from 6-7 p.m. to pick up materials for summer reading, participate in games and activities, grab a dino cookie, and enjoy a multigenerational storytelling performance by award-winning professional storyteller Dr. Kevin Cordi at 6:30 p.m. Door prize drawings for children, teens and adults will be available for all who sign up for summer reading.

Children and teens may earn rewards and incentives by completing reading challenges and activities and attending programs. For every five hours of reading or being read to, an entry is earned for a grand prize. A few examples of grand prizes for youth this year include a MacBook, a camping tent, LEGO sets and a toy excavator for “unearthing” stories.

For adults, every five checkouts will earn an entry for a grand prize. A checkout is any use of your library card, so this includes books, magazines, movies, music, digital resources, mobile hotspots, yard games, activity kits and more. Prizes for adults this year will be $50 gift cards to a variety of local businesses.

To participate in the reading challenge or checkout challenge beginning May 27, pick up a reading log or checkout challenge at the Coshocton Main Library, West Lafayette Branch Library or bookmobile or log your activity digitally through the Beanstack Tracker app.

The library would like to thank community businesses, organizations and individuals for their generous support of the Summer Reading Program. Our Summer Reading Program includes crafts, activities, programs, prizes and other reading incentives provided entirely by our community members, and the library is grateful for their support.

The bookmobile will continue to make stops throughout the summer and also will have fun activities and opportunities to earn prizes for those who participate in summer reading. Grand prizes will be a $50 cash prize for each age group. Check out the bookmobile schedule at www.coshoctonlibrary.org/bookmobile.

There will be an opportunity to visit the bookmobile and bug mobile this summer. The Ohio State University Bug Mobile will make a special stop at Coshocton KOA Campground from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, June 13 to provide a hands-on interactive program about the incredible life of bugs and their importance in the ecosystem. Of course, there will be a chance to meet some live critters as well. The event is free to attend. After the creepy-crawly experience, check out some books on bugs from the bookmobile to continue the educational adventure at home.

Throughout the rest of the summer, the library will have a variety of activities and programs for all ages to complement the "Unearth a Story" theme. For the full calendar of events and registration information, visit www.coshoctonlibrary.org.
