Union alumni gather for 81st reunion
More than 120 attended the May 2 event at the Coshocton Senior Center, where organizers honored veterans and recognized the Class of 1966
The 81st Union High School Alumni gathering was held May 2 at the Coshocton Senior Center/Community Center. The event was catered by Schumaker Farms with 123 in attendance including four teachers and one principal.
Naomi Ashcraft Huble, Class of 1958, did the welcome as chair of the committee consisting of Don and Ruth Ann Hanes Mason, Class of 1961; Kenny and Cathy Berry Jenkins, Class of 1961 and 1965; and Bess Sibert VanAtta, Class of 1967.
The dinner invocation was given by Tom Bodle of the Class of 1964. Ruth Ann Mason introduced the 60-year honor class of 1966 and shared bits of history from the year of 1966 such as Pampers were invented that year.
Cathy Jenkins read the minutes of the 2025 alumni gathering. Naomi Huble recognized the military branches as Bess VanAtta of the local Blue Star Mothers OH 59 handed out thank-you coins to those who served their country. The group sang "God Bless America," accompanied by Imogene Mikesell Hanes, Class of 1954, on the piano, also closing the evening with the Trojan Fight Song to the tune of "Anchors Away." Music for the evening was provided by Gene Perrine, Class of 1963.
Ruie Smith of the Class of 1950 hand crocheted dish scrubbies made with red, white and blue in celebration of the 250th signing of the Declaration of Independence. They were distributed to all in attendance.
Anyone having attended the Union grade school is welcome to attend the Union Alumni gatherings. Text Bess VanAtta by the end of 2026 to get added to the mailing list at 740-610-5632 or email bessvanatta@yahoo.com. If interested in being part of the alumni committee, contact her as well.
