A groundbreaking ceremony was held at the site of the new $50,000 Masonic Temple on Third St. NE in Carrollton.

Richard E. King of Knox County was named the new basketball coach at Carrollton High School, succeeding William LoPresti.

The Carrollton Warriors baseball team downed the New Philadelphia Quakers 7-2 when Bill Fawcett won his fifth game of the season by striking out 12.

Recipients of Honorary Chapter Farmer awards at the Carrollton High School Future Farmers of America banquet were Jack Fling, Earl McKarns, Paul Ramsey and Mr. and Mrs. Michael Seich.

The Carrollton girls track team nipped Stanton Local 53-52 and defeated Wellsville 53-37 in Indian League competition.

Carrollton High School students honored for having the best academic records for the 1975-76 school year included Mike Fawcett, Amy Brumbaugh, Rick Burns and Kay McLean. Recognized for having the most improved grades were Tom Shafer, Stuart Carter and Mike Baker.

Carroll County Sheriff William E. Offenberger received a Silver Star for Bravery award for his actions in the capture of a 27-year-old Mechanicstown-area man following a “stand-off” at a residence in the Mechanicstown area.

Kathy Haney and Sam Bente reigned as queen and king of Conotton Valley High School’s 1986 junior-senior prom.

The Sandy Valley boys track team finished fourth in the Senate League contest with 56 points.

Kathy Hutson was named Carrollton’s Mother of the Year.

The five Carrollton Exempted Village School District bus drivers selected to compete in the state School Bus Driver Road-e-o included Linda Derby, Rhonda Baker, Glenn Rossey, Vicki King and Jennie Irwin.

The Carrollton Warriors, coached by Curet Hensley, won the Senate League tournament with a 19-7 win over Beaver Local.

Chris Modranski, current Carroll County commissioner, was the subject of a feature story in the May 18 issue of The FPS when he was a part-time dispatcher at the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office.

Marilyne E. Shanks and Donna Long, both longtime employees of the Carrollton school system, were honored for their years of service at the May meeting of the Board of Education.

Carrollton High School’s girls track team finished the season with an 89-39 win over Alliance and placed seventh in the Northeastern Buckeye Conference.

The four individuals inducted into the 2016 Carrollton Schools Alumni Foundation Hall of Fame included the late Richard C. (Dick) Walton, Deirdre Prendergast and her brother, the late Francis (Frank) Prendergast, and U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Christopher Snyder.

Jennifer Gotschall of Carrollton was among the members of the 2016 Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival Queen’s Court in Canton.

The Carrollton boys track team placed fifth in the Northeastern Buckeye Conference meet with 76.5 points.
