Bell-Herron awards program set for May 6
This year, 58 scholarships will be awarded totaling $116,000
The annual Bell-Herron Scholarship Foundation awards program will be held Wednesday, May 6, in the Carrollton High School Performing Arts Center at 7:30 p.m.
Outstanding academic eighth graders and high school students, will be recognized. Also, the Bell-Herron scholarships will be presented. Students are encouraged to attend to receive their certificates at the awards program. Refreshments and entertainment will be offered for the recipients and their parents or guests.
Since its establishment in 1963, the foundation has invested $1,820,350 in providing post-high school training for 1,505 local and area young people within the Carrollton Exempted Village School District. This year, 58 scholarships will be awarded totaling $116,000.
The foundation was established in honor and memory of W.R. Bell and J. Wendell Herron, both former superintendents of the Carrollton schools.
Officers are Carl Fry, president; David Davis, vice president; Kelli Pridemore, treasurer; and DiAnne Buck, recording secretary. Other board members include Sean Smith, Renae Gross, Amanda Whaley, Kelly Atkinson, Belinda Mach, Fran Shufelt, Barb Newbold, Rick Truman and Cindy Thompson.
All scholarships are awarded to graduates of Carrollton High School. While no one student is awarded a large amount, the financial and moral support which a small scholarship affords is often the extra boost needed to allow that student to begin a program of higher education.
Contributions, memorials, class gifts or donations may still be mailed to the Bell-Herron Foundation, Treasurer Kelli Pridemore, P.O. Box 123, Carrollton, OH 44615.
Carrollton High School is located at 205 Scio Road, Carrollton.
