The Generals' Report

Arts festival showcases talent across Wooster schools

Teachers also recognized for curriculum development work

Gabe Tudor speaking for The Generals' Report.

Spring always brings new energy to our schools, and this April we’ve seen students and staff channel that energy in creative ways throughout the district.

The annual Fine Arts Festival at Wooster High School is always a highlight of the spring, and this year was no exception. Our students were truly outstanding. From the impressive performances by the Edgewood Middle School and Wooster High School band and orchestra to the wide range of artwork displayed throughout the building, the level of talent and dedication was remarkable.

The Wooster High School Drama Club’s production of “This Murder Was Staged” was another standout, showcasing talent on stage and the countless hours of preparation behind the scenes. We are incredibly proud of the effort our students put into their work and grateful to the families and community members who came out to support them.

I also want to recognize the outstanding work of our social studies teachers. Over the past two years, a dedicated team of educators representing every grade level has led a thorough and thoughtful curriculum adoption process. Their work has been detailed, collaborative and rooted in a shared commitment to providing the best possible learning experience for our students.

This team has carefully reviewed instructional materials, piloted resources in classrooms, used structured rubrics to evaluate each option and made formal recommendations to the board of education. Their proposals prioritize vertical alignment, ensuring learning builds consistently and meaningfully as students progress from one grade to the next.

In addition to core materials, they explored resources that bring learning to life including tools to help students better understand current events and opportunities for project-based learning that encourage critical thinking and real-world application.

Because of their dedication, we are well-positioned to move into full implementation next year, with continued focus on professional development and strong curriculum alignment. I am sincerely grateful for the time, care and professionalism our teachers have invested to keep student success at the center of our work.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support of Wooster City Schools.
