Eva Cruz of the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank was on hand recently at
Market Street Art Spot to accept a donation following the “100 Bowls for
Hunger” event, which will help provide thousands of meals locally.
Marty Chapman of Market Street Art Spot
announced that $2,543.33 was raised during the March 13 fundraiser, which will
benefit local food assistance efforts through the food bank.
According to Cruz, every $1 can provide three
meals, meaning the event will help supply an estimated 7,629 meals to
individuals and families in the community.
The funds will help support food distribution
efforts serving Carroll County residents through local partner organizations.
The fundraiser featured more than 160
handcrafted bowls and was organized by Market Street Art Spot, with proceeds
supporting the Minerva food pantry.
Each bowl was handcrafted by local and regional
artists, making the event both a fundraiser and a showcase of community
creativity.
“The money is being presented to local food
organizations dealing with food insecurity in this area,” Chapman said. “There
is food insecurity here, so I’m pleased to say we raised $2,543.33.”
Chapman previously said the idea for the event
came while planning a monthly show and grew after members of the Buckeye
Woodworkers and Woodturners agreed to contribute handcrafted bowls, many of
which were donated.
“In most cases, the entire price of the bowl
went to the hunger task force,” Chapman said.
The event also included refreshments and live
music, drawing community members together in support of the cause.
The Minerva Rotary served as the event’s
sponsor, helping support the effort and its focus on local hunger relief.
Organizers said the success of the fundraiser
reflects both the ongoing need in the area and the community’s willingness to
come together to help address it.
