Buckeye Career Center names April students of the month

Three students recognized for passion and excellence

April’s Adult Education Student of the Month is Lexis Ewing of the Welding Technology program.

Buckeye Career Center has named its April Students of the Month. Two high school students were chosen for demonstrating April’s core value of passion. An adult education student also received the honor.

Alli Reynolds

The first high school winner is Introduction to Nursing senior Alli Reynolds. Reynolds attends BCC from Carrollton, where she is a member of National Honor Society, Academic Hall of Fame, danceline and track and field. At BCC, she is a member of National Technical Honor Society, Drug Free Clubs of America and HOSA-Future Health Professionals.

In HOSA, Reynolds placed second at state in the patient care technician competition and will compete at the international competition this summer. She is employed by Jimmy’s Backyard BBQ.

Her Introduction to Nursing instructor, Lucas Grove, nominated her for the honor.

“Alli is highly focused, consistently producing outstanding academic work while actively seeking opportunities to improve,” Grove said.

After graduation, Reynolds plans to attend the University of Mount Union to earn a bachelor’s degree in nursing and become a certified registered nurse anesthetist. She is the daughter of James and Sara Reynolds.

Jackson Rice

The second high school winner is Project Lead the Way/Engineering and Computer Technology senior Jackson Rice. Rice is a homeschooled student from the Bolivar area. He volunteers at the Bolivar Library and enjoys music production, gaming, electronics and coding.

At BCC, Rice is a double-lab student and a member of Business Professionals of America. He will compete at BPA nationals this year after success at regionals and state.

Rice’s PLTW instructor, Tim Vandeborne, nominated him for the honor.

“Jackson exemplifies what it means to be passionate about learning and personal growth. He consistently goes above and beyond,” Vandeborne said.

His Computer Technology instructor, Bill Alexander, also praised him.

“Jackson is focused on his future and is a great student who deserves this recognition,” Alexander said.

After graduation, Rice plans to attend Kent State University at Tuscarawas and major in engineering. He is the son of Jeff and Linda Rice.

April’s Adult Education Student of the Month is Lexis Ewing of the Welding Technology program. Ewing is a graduate of Carrollton High School and works as an STNA at Louisville Gardens. She enrolled in the program to gain experience for a future career.

Her instructor, Marvin Menefee, nominated her for the honor.

“Lexis is a great student who works hard and is always willing to help anyone out,” Menefee said.

The three students were honored at the April Board of Education meeting.
