United Way to honor Mark Waltz with Vic Marsh Award
The Vic Marsh Annual Service Award was established to honor local citizens who have made the community a better place through their work with the United Way
The United Way of Tuscarawas County will honor longtime board member Mark Waltz of Dover during the annual Vic Marsh Award Dinner to be held Monday, June 8.
The Vic Marsh Annual Service Award was established in December 1987 by the United Way of Tuscarawas County’s Board of Trustees to honor local citizens who have made the community a better place through their work with the United Way. The award is named after the founder of the United Way of Tuscarawas County, Victor “Vic” Marsh, who exemplified this type of individual and was the recipient of the first award.
Mark Waltz has volunteered and supported the United Way of Tuscarawas County for more than 35 years. He began his United Way service as the Public Employee Division assistant in 1990, later working as division leader. He was selected for the Finance Committee in 1994, where he continues to serve. Mark was board president in 2002 and campaign chairman for the 2010-11 campaign, and he retired from the Board of Trustees in 2025.
Mark has volunteered on several area boards and service organizations, including the Dover Rotary Club since 1999 and the Board of Appraisers for the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District for more than 20 years. After serving as chief deputy auditor for Tuscarawas County, Mark began his second career in 1999 as a real estate appraiser, starting Waltz Appraisal Services, which he operated until his retirement in 2025. Mark also served as a board member for the Tuscarawas County Board of Elections, culminating as chairman of the board from March 2025 until retiring in September 2025.
Mark is a graduate of New Philadelphia High School and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Kent State University. He married his wife, Sally, in 1986, and they have two daughters, Jennifer (Terry) Howard of Bowling Green and Kristen (Josh) Burt of Hilliard. Mark and Sally are blessed with a grandson, Henry Howard, and enjoy spending as much time with their family as possible.
Sarah Spies, president and CEO of the United Way of Tuscarawas County, said, “We are so pleased to be honoring Mark Waltz with the Vic Marsh Annual Service Award. Mark has been a volunteer for the United Way for over 30 years! His commitment to volunteerism and dedication to our community sets an example of servant leadership that I, and many others, aspire to. It is truly an honor to work with Mark and to recognize the long-lasting impact he has had on our organization.”
The United Way of Tuscarawas County is grateful for the years of support and service Mark has given the organization and is thrilled to honor him as the 2025 Vic Marsh Annual Service Award recipient.
