Library friends announce annual garden tour
The foundation supports the Tuscarawas County Public Library System through gifts and investments that provide long-term benefits
The New Philadelphia Friends of the Library will host their eighth annual Garden Tour fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 11.
The self-guided tour will feature six gardens throughout northern Tuscarawas County.
“This year’s tour will focus on gardens in northern Tuscarawas County,” Friends President Candy Beaber said. “The proceeds from the Garden Tour will benefit the Tuscarawas County Public Library Foundation.”
The foundation, formed in 2019, supports the Tuscarawas County Public Library System through gifts and investments that provide long-term benefits.
Featured stops on the tour include:
Clawson Homestead — Located in New Philadelphia behind West School, the property features a rose garden, flowers, trees, shrubs and water features.
Gnome Home — Located outside Bolivar, the pollinator garden includes native plants designed to attract birds, butterflies and bees, along with raised garden beds, asparagus and raspberry patches and mature trees.
Monarch Gardens — These neighboring gardens in Bolivar feature perennials, a greenhouse, decorative pond and a farmstand offering sourdough bread.
Shirl’s Garden — The Dover garden includes brick pathways, water features, hydrangeas, roses, Japanese maple trees and shaded seating areas.
Terra Depot — Located in Navarre, the nature specialty shop features bird feeders, statuary and a 100-foot high tunnel growing heirloom raspberry varieties and native plants.
The Zoar Garden — Dating to 1830, the garden in Historic Zoar Village is modeled after the New Jerusalem described in the Book of Revelation and includes historic plantings, apostle trees and one of Ohio’s earliest hot houses.
Tickets are $15 and are available during regular business hours at the Main Library in New Philadelphia and library branches in Bolivar, Strasburg, Sugarcreek and Tuscarawas. Tickets may be purchased with cash or check at all locations, while credit card purchases are available only at the Main Library.
In case of rain, the tour will move to July 12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
