Dover library to host Tornado Alley reception

Tornado Alley is a publication showcasing work from local students in grades six through 12

Tornado Alley includes poetry, artwork, creative nonfiction and fiction created by local teens.

The Dover Public Library will host the Tornado Alley: Volume 12 Reception at 2 p.m. May 30.

The event will recognize teen creators and editors featured in the latest edition of Tornado Alley, a publication showcasing work from local students in grades six through 12. Featured authors will have the opportunity to read their work aloud, and organizers will recognize everyone involved in producing the magazine.

The reception also will include refreshments, activities and giveaways for teen creators. Registration is not required.

Tornado Alley includes poetry, artwork, creative nonfiction and fiction created by local teens. The publication is printed locally and edited by teen volunteers with assistance from Dover Public Library Teen Services Manager Liz Strauss.

“This magazine is such a great opportunity for young creators,” Strauss said. “I’m excited to celebrate what they have accomplished this year in this latest edition, and I hope we have many more editions ahead of us.”

Copies of the magazine will be available free at the library following the reception.

The publication is funded through a 21st Century Afterschool Learning Grant with Dover High School. The grant supports educational opportunities outside the classroom and has helped fund Teen Subscription Boxes, 3D printing services and STEAM/STEM programming through the partnership between Dover City Schools and Dover Public Library.

Previous editions of Tornado Alley are available online at doverlibrary.org/tornado-alley and can be checked out from the library’s Teen Room.
