Tusky Valley board approves track resurfacing, curriculum purchase
During public participation, Alicia Hall addressed the board regarding school funding
The Tuscarawas Valley Local Board of Education approved several major projects and personnel items during its regular meeting May 11.
Among the largest expenditures approved was a contract with Vasco Sports Contractors for resurfacing the stadium track at a cost not to exceed $312,065 through the OMNIA Partners cooperative purchasing program.
Board members also approved the purchase of the Amplify Desmos Math curriculum for grades K-8 at an approximate cost of $255,000. The five-year package includes printed and digital materials, manipulatives, assessments and professional development.
Additional facility projects approved included:
a $35,282 contract with Complete Coatings Solutions LLC to paint the Community Center gymnasium and bleachers;
a paving contract with Vasco Asphalt Company for district offices and the Community Center at an estimated cost of $216,517;
and architectural agreements with Cordogan Clark Lesko for the Tuscarawas Valley Legacy Wall Project ($25,000) and Wellness Center Room Project ($37,500).
The board also approved advertising for bids for the Legacy Wall Project at Tusky Valley Elementary School.
Personnel items included accepting the retirement resignation of kindergarten teacher Laura Walton effective May 29 and approving several new hires for the 2026-27 school year.
New certified hires included:
Kinzey Schilling, third-grade teacher;
and Delaney Orin, second-grade teacher.
The board also approved Abigail Jezewski as a middle-high school paraprofessional and several summer temporary employees and technology interns.
The board approved a lease agreement with Intera Counseling and Wellness for room 128 in the administrative building from June 1 through Aug. 31.
Other approvals included:
instructional fees for the 2026-27 school year;
College Credit Plus agreements with the University of Cincinnati and Walsh University;
a five-year generator maintenance agreement with Cummins Inc.;
and renewal of Frontline Education absence and substitute management services.
The board recognized Tuscarawas Valley High School Class of 2026 honored graduates, including summa cum laude graduates Taryn Campbell, Jonah Cox, Loren Gardner, Allegra McMillan, Ava Moneypenny, Lucas Plauger, Sarah Reynolds and Ethan Shilling.
During public participation, Alicia Hall addressed the board regarding school funding, the Vouchers Hurt Ohio lawsuit and proposed federal budget cuts.
The next regular board meeting is scheduled for June 8 at 6 p.m. in the Community Board Room.
