Tusky Valley’s track teams continued an outstanding spring with dominant performances as hosts of the Thrilla in Zoarville May 1.

The Trojans girls team won the meet with 120 points, topping a 12-team field. The boys finished second with 93 points, trailing only Indian Valley’s 103.

Newcomerstown’s girls were runner-up with 101.5 points, followed by Strasburg-Franklin in fourth with 78 and Indian Valley in fifth with 62.5. On the boys side, Newcomerstown placed eighth with 33 points and Strasburg-Franklin finished 11th with 22.

For Tusky Valley, Savannah Ashton won the 200-meter dash and was second in the 100. Sam Ward won the 800, Natalie Stokes claimed the 3,200 and Natalie Woloch won the 300 hurdles. Katie Armstrong captured the pole vault title, and the Trojans also won the 4x400 relay.

For the boys, Cade Conrad won the 800, Jake McDermott took the shot put and the 4x400 relay team added another first-place finish.

Indian Valley’s boys team was led by Reese St. Clair, who won the 100 and 200, Nolan Patacca, who won the 3,200, and Carsen Hostetler, who swept the 110 and 300 hurdles. Gionna Miles paced the Brave girls with a runner-up finish in the 100 hurdles and a fourth-place finish in the 300 hurdles.

Strasburg-Franklin’s Lydia Thomas won both the 400 and long jump, while Kylie McKenzie finished second in the 1,600 and 3,200. Lizzy Hill was second in the discus and Mya Boylan took second in the high jump. Gage Moore led the boys with a runner-up finish in the shot put.

Newcomerstown’s runner-up girls team was led by Magelynn Collins, who won the discus and was second in the shot put. The Trojans also won the 4x100 and 4x200 relays, while Cameron Kuder and Samantha Kuder each posted top-four finishes in the 100 and 200. Solee Garland added a second-place finish in the 300 hurdles. For the boys, Trenton Wright won the 400 and the 4x100 relay also took first.

Tuscarawas Central Catholic’s Nolan Pugh, competing as an individual, won the pole vault with a height of 14 feet.

Cogan Invitational

Also May 1, Sandy Valley’s girls team finished fifth at the 12-team Larry Cogan Warrior Invitational in Carrollton, while the boys placed ninth among 11 teams.

Taliana Tozzi led the girls with a win in the high jump, while Raegan Adams was runner-up in the 3,200 and Brianna Wheeler placed second in the shot put. Alexis Waller added a fourth-place finish in the 100 hurdles. Gleason Pfeffer led the boys with a win in the 3,200.

Tuscarawas Central Catholic did not post team scores. Steven Simpson led the boys with a ninth-place finish in the 400, while Elna Torres paced the girls with a 16th-place finish in the same event.

Adams Memorial

Claymont competed at the Dan Adams Memorial Track Meet in New Zanesville, with the girls finishing fourth among 13 teams. John Glenn won the team title.

The Mustangs won the 4x200 relay and placed second in both the 4x400 and 4x800 relays. Individually, Kalli Wallace finished third in the 800 and 1,600, and Grace McPerson placed third in the 3,200. The boys 4x800 relay team placed second, and Dorian Harris finished third in both the 100 and 200.

Fitch Optimist

Dover’s track teams competed at the Optimist Meet at Austintown Fitch High School.

The girls finished fifth among 23 teams with 47 points, while the boys were seventh among 22 teams with 33 points.

Emmy Rodriguez led the girls with a second-place finish in the long jump, and Maddie Minnis was second in the shot put. For the boys, Chase Daniel placed second in the 3,200 and Dante Clark was runner-up in the long jump.
