Newcomerstown arts center distributes 130 art kits
The kits include high-quality materials designed to encourage creativity, imagination and artistic exploration
The Arts Center of Newcomerstown has distributed 130 deluxe art kits to students across Newcomerstown High School, Newcomerstown Middle School and West Elementary School.
The kits were randomly awarded to students and include high-quality materials designed to encourage creativity, imagination and artistic exploration.
Each deluxe kit contains a selected assortment of professional-grade supplies, ranging from sketch materials and paints to specialty tools, giving students the opportunity to experiment with different artistic techniques and express themselves.
“These are not your typical art kits,” said Michael Wise, executive director of ARTSNCT. “We made a commitment to provide something truly special — kits that could spark imagination, build confidence, and perhaps even inspire a lifelong passion for the arts.”
Funding for the kits was made possible through community support and grant funding. Proceeds from advertisements sold in ARTSNCT’s newly released book, "Newcomerstown’s Connection to the Arts," played a major role, along with a supporting grant from Tuscarawas Arts Partnership.
“This project shows what can happen when a community comes together to support the arts,” Wise said. “From local businesses purchasing ads to organizations investing in our mission, every contribution helped place these incredible tools directly into the hands of our young artists.”
ARTSNCT’s book, "Newcomerstown’s Connection to the Arts," highlights stories of individuals connected to Newcomerstown who have made lasting contributions to music, stage, film, design and the visual arts. The publication celebrates the town’s artistic heritage and serves as an educational resource for readers of all ages.
Printing of the book was made possible through a grant from the Tuscarawas County Convention and Visitors Bureau. Thousands of copies have been distributed free of charge and are available throughout the county, including at Riesbeck’s, Newcomerstown Public Library and Newcomerstown Historical Society, as well as other local businesses and restaurants.
“Our goal with the book was simple — to show our young people that greatness can come from right here,” Wise said. “When students see that individuals from their own hometown have gone on to shape the arts on a national and even global stage, it opens their minds to what is possible.”
ARTSNCT continues to support the cultural fabric of the tri-county area by providing accessible arts programming, educational opportunities and community events. Through initiatives such as the deluxe art kits and free distribution of its book, the organization remains committed to ensuring the arts are available to everyone, regardless of age, background or income.
“As we look ahead, we remain focused on investing in our youth and our community,” Wise said. “The arts are not just an activity — they are a bridge that connects people, builds confidence and brings communities together.”
