New Philadelphia teams lead Legends meet

New Philadelphia hosted the annual Legends Track Meet April 10, and the Quakers enjoyed the home advantage. The New Philadelphia boys won the eight-team meet with 161 points to outdistance runner-up Wadsworth’s 126.

The Quaker girls were runners-up with 111, just missing Dover’s winning total of 113.5. Dover’s boys placed third with 78.

Tuscarawas Central Catholic’s girls, competing against much larger schools, placed seventh out of eight teams. TCC’s boys, in the same situation, did not score.

Leading the way for the Quaker boys was senior Caleb Carlisle, who won the 100-meter dash, placed third in the 200 and was part of a winning relay team.

Senior Marcus Adelman won the 1600, finishing ahead of senior Alec Adelman. Marcus also won the 3200.

Junior Jaxson Rice and senior Mitchell Miller were part of a four-way tie in the high jump at 6 feet, 2 inches, with Rice placing first and Miller second based on attempts. Junior Nolan Rosnek won the long jump.

The foursome of seniors Eric Harris, Myles Tysson and Carlisle, and junior Kolston Fox won the 4x100 relay. The team of junior Kevin Smith, senior Kyle Beaber, and freshmen Connor Kreinbihl and Holden Rotunno won the 4x800.

For the Quaker girls, freshman Khloe Sours won the high jump and sophomore Jillian Hanes won the long jump. The foursome of junior Kylie Smith, senior Amya Pica, and sophomores Hanes and Lily Wilson won the 4x400.

Leading Dover’s victory was a pair of underclassmen. Sophomore Cassidy McKee won the 3200, while freshman Maddie Minnis won the shot put and discus.

For Dover’s boys, sophomore Dieter Weber won the 400 and senior Justice Hughes won the 110 hurdles. The quartet of senior Chase Daniel, junior Tyler Shusss, and sophomores Deacon Wise and Weber won the 4x400.

For Central Catholic’s girls, senior Elena Price won the 800 and 1600, joining Marcus Adelman and Minnis as the only athletes to win two individual events.

In other track events:

Tusky Valley: The Trojans had a strong showing at the Knights Invitational at West Holmes. The girls won the team title with 122 points, topping Newcomerstown’s 100. The boys were second with 88, behind Canal Fulton Northwest’s 158.

Senior Savannah Ashton won the 100 and 200 and was part of the winning 4x400 team with senior Sami Ward, junior Hayden Huffman and sophomore Josie Eick. Ashton also ran on the runner-up 4x100 team. Ward, Huffman, Eick and freshman Natalie Stokes combined to win the 4x800. Senior Katie Armstrong added a win in the pole vault.

For the boys, the foursome of juniors Cade Conrad, Logan Roth and Mason Tidrick, and sophomore Michah Rippel won the 4x800.

Newcomerstown: Keying the Trojans’ runner-up finish at West Holmes was junior Solee Garland, who won the 300 hurdles and was part of the winning 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams with junior Cameron Kuder, and sophomores Samantha Kuder and Avilyn Hoover. The Trojan boys placed ninth with 29 points. Senior Trenton Wright won the 400.

Sandy Valley: The Cardinal girls finished fifth at West Holmes with 65 points, a half-point ahead of the host Knights. The boys placed eighth with 37. Leading the girls were junior Sydney Hauenstein, who won the 100 hurdles, and freshman Taliana Tozzi, who won the high jump. Sophomore Gleason Pfeffer was runner-up in the 1600.

Indian Valley: Competing at the Dave Porterfield Invitational, the Braves boys squad finished third in a 15-team field with 72 points. Steubenville won with 98, followed by St. Clairsville with 79. The girls placed sixth with 50, while Cleveland John Marshall won with 88.

For the boys, junior Carsen Hostetler won the 110 and 300 hurdles, the latter in a meet-record 38.45 seconds. Junior Reese St. Clair won the 400. For the girls, Amelia Smith finished second in the 400.
