Dover-New Philadelphia Kiwanis Club awards $12,000 in scholarships
Since the program began, the club has awarded about $281,000 to help area students further their education
The Dover-New Philadelphia Kiwanis Club recently awarded 24 scholarships of $500 each to local students, for a total of $12,000.
Twenty-two scholarships are from the Dover-New Philadelphia Kiwanis Club scholarship program, which was founded in 1979 by the late Rev. Jay Cooper. The late Ole Wessell, also a Kiwanian, left funds in trust that the club uses for the scholarship program.
Two additional $500 scholarships are the Rancie Titley Memorial Scholarship. Titley was a longtime, active and valued member of the club. Her husband, Bill, provided funds for the scholarships in her memory.
