Tusky Valley approves YMCA lease, wall contract
Board members also set temporary fiscal 2027 appropriations and confirmed students will keep free meals through the federal program
The Tuscarawas Valley Local Board of Education approved a long-term lease agreement with the Tuscarawas County YMCA and awarded a construction contract for the district's Legacy Wall project during its June 8 meeting.
Board members approved a 10-year, two-month lease agreement with the YMCA for the Wellness Center and Room 130 in the district administrative building. The agreement runs from Nov. 1 through Dec. 31, 2036.
The board also awarded a $296,330 construction contract to CCI Construction LLC for the Tuscarawas Valley Legacy Wall project at the elementary school. The project received one competitive bid, which district architect Cordogan Clark Lesko determined was the lowest responsive and responsible bid.
In other business, the board approved temporary fiscal year 2027 appropriations totaling $30.74 million across all district funds.
The board accepted donations totaling $1,649, including contributions from Lockport Brewing Co., Melody and Rick Niblick, Giant Eagle Dover and Beaver Excavating for student programs and activities.
Board members approved several personnel actions, including the hiring of Lexi Kelley as an intervention specialist at Tuscarawas Valley Elementary School effective Aug. 14.
The board accepted resignations from elementary school counselor Carmen Heller, executive administrative assistant Tonya Galigher and assistant treasurer-budgetary Christine Smith.
The board approved supplemental contracts for numerous coaches, advisors, department heads and other extracurricular positions for the 2026-27 school year.
Additional approvals included a transition agreement with Harcatus Tri-County Community Action Organization Head Start, the district parent-student handbook and 2026-27 meal prices. Students will continue receiving free breakfast and lunch through the district's participation in the Community Eligibility Provision program.
The board approved a member service agreement with OME-RESA for fiscal year 2027 at an estimated cost of $45,000 and the purchase of FinalForms services through OME-RESA for approximately $10,000.
Vice President Sally Green called the meeting to order at 5:01 p.m. Board member Amy Burrier joined the meeting at 5:25 p.m.
The board entered executive session at 5:29 p.m. to discuss employment and compensation matters involving public employees and officials and returned to open session at 6:35 p.m. No action was taken following the executive session.
Board members also discussed scheduling a work session later this month.
The next regular board meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Aug. 10 in the Community Board Room.
