Free car seat check event set in New Philadelphia
During the event, certified child passenger safety technicians will inspect car seats, verify proper installation and provide hands-on education
The Tuscarawas County Health Department is partnering with the New Philadelphia City Health Department and New Philadelphia Fire Department to host a free car seat check event from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. June 15 in the Walmart parking lot, 231 Bluebell Drive SW, New Philadelphia.
Motor vehicle crashes remain a leading cause of injury for children, and proper car seat use is one of the most effective ways to keep children safe while traveling.
During the event, certified child passenger safety technicians will inspect car seats, verify proper installation and provide hands-on education to help families ensure their children are riding safely.
“Car seats save lives, but only when they are used correctly,” said Abbie Shankland, child injury prevention coordinator at the health department. “This event gives parents and caregivers the opportunity to have their car seats checked by certified technicians and leave with confidence knowing their children are as safe as possible while riding in a vehicle.”
No appointment is necessary. Families are encouraged to bring their child and vehicle so technicians can ensure the car seat fits both properly.
For more information about the car seat check event or child passenger safety programs, contact the Tuscarawas County Health Department at 330-343-5555, ext. 1530, or ashankland@tchdnow.org.
