Class speakers for Carrollton High School's 1966 graduation of 205 members included Valedictorian Mary Walton and co-salutatorians Pauline Ereb and Mary J. Scott.

Beverly Bright was selected as queen of the Amsterdam Junior Women's Club's old-fashioned community festival.

Southern Local Booster Club members were informed the new $1,800 scoreboard for the football field had been ordered, and new Southern Local football coach Beau Bell was introduced.

50 YEARS AGO

As a Bicentennial project, an eighth-grade American history class taught by Douglas Moser at Augusta School buried a capsule containing a class photo and various other memorabilia to be opened in 25 years, in 2001.

County commissioners elected at the June primary election included Republicans Robert E. A. Rock Smith, incumbent, and Roger G. Eick, a new member, while Democrats elected Harry Hendricks and Robert Kellogg.

Mildred Smith retired as Carrollton schools cafeteria supervisor.

Does anyone remember the Carrollton School Safety Patrol? The 1976 group included Richard Coffy, Rick Hemming, Cindy Ray, David Berry, Ronnie Wilson, Mike Morvatz, Jim Saltsman, Ronnie Stewart, Donnie Haines, Doug Hensley, Barb Lloyd, George Berry, Roger Morckel, David Craig, Greg Green, Darla Jones and Doug Thomas.

40 YEARS AGO

From 1986 FPS Files

Representatives of the Carroll County Farm Bureau, Regional Planning Commission, county postmasters and county fire chiefs met to discuss house numbering in the county.

Richard Hartong and his wife, Cecilia, were the subjects of a feature story about trading city life in Summit County for a swine-dairy farm operation in Carroll County.

Two area girls, Becky Twaddle and Kristen Larke, were among the elite 16 who competed in each event at the state track meet.

Carrollton special baseball winners and seniors honored included Lee Gallatin, Dennis Pumneo, Ron Lucas, Scott Aston, Tom Ferrell, Jim Honnold and Greg Fisher.

Mrs. Shirley Mitchell was appointed as a new member of the Carroll County Agricultural Society.

Nancy Whiteleather was installed as president of Carrollton's Veterans of Foreign Wars Fighting McCook Post Auxiliary.

Connie S. Hubbard of Malvern, a former Minerva High School science teacher, was honored as Alumna of the Year at Malone College in Canton.

Malvern's Dennis Tucci was named the 1996 Inter-Valley Conference baseball co-coach of the year.

Mrs. Ruby Gilliam and David L. Jones were re-elected chairman of their respective political parties, the Carroll County Democrats and Carroll County Republicans.

Dr. Erick Chamblee of San Antonio, Texas, joined the Carrollton dental practice of Drs. Berg and Birong as an associate.

Carrollton Middle School eighth-graders Kyle Baker and Katie Dunlap received the Archie Griffin Award based on sportsmanship, ethics, team leadership, academics and work ethic.

The Conotton Valley Board of Education closed Bowerston Elementary School in an effort to consolidate grades into one campus at the site of the high school on state Route 212.

Carrollton's girls 4x800-meter relay team is Micah Donley, left, Maddie Dunlap, Grace Bartlow and Kady Davis. The team competed at the state track tournament and placed third with a time of 9:20.66.

A 240-mile pipeline project crossing southwest Carroll County was the subject of a feature story in the June 9, 2016, FPS.

Carrollton's boys 4x800-meter relay team, comprised of Jon Gofford, Adam Shaw, Quinton Huggett and Cole Levitt, finished second at the state track meet, while Carrollton's girls track team, shown in the accompanying photo, placed third.
