The Carrollton Exempted Village Board of Education recognized 15 retirees during its June 2 meeting, with Superintendent Dave Davis calling it one of the largest retirement classes in district history as officials also discussed summer meal distribution, a new cross-country course and preparations for the 2026-27 school year.

Davis thanked retiring employees for their years of service and acknowledged the challenge of replacing decades of experience.

"This year, we had 15 retirees. That might be the most ever in one year," Davis said. "It's just a lot of experience to try to replace, so we're thankful for all of them."

The superintendent also praised staff and students for another successful school year and commencement ceremony.

"Another great night, another great send-off for our Class of 2026," Davis said.

Among summer initiatives, the district will again offer weekly meal distributions for children ages 18 and younger. Meals will be available on nine Thursdays beginning June 11 and ending Aug. 6. Families can pick up a seven-day meal package at Carrollton High School between 8:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.

The district also announced it will continue the split-start schedule for kindergarten students after what Davis described as a successful first year.

In addition, the district is preparing a new cross-country course that winds through wooded areas, around a runoff pond and along a former railroad bed. Davis said the course is expected to be fully marked and mowed by the end of June, with an invitational planned for Sept. 12.

"It's got to be one of the prettiest courses anywhere," Davis said.

“I had the opportunity to ride along with Davis on a tour of the course, and it is really nice,” said Board President Dan Ries. “Just seeing the course wore me out. I couldn’t imagine actually running it.”

Assistant Superintendent Andy Reeves reported that preschool staff have selected a new curriculum and professional development program for the coming school year. The district is seeking grant funding that could offset the entire cost of the program.

Reeves also outlined plans to replace oversized teacher desks in several elementary intervention rooms with smaller workstations to create more instructional space for students.
