TuscBDD employment services connect people with careers
The program focuses on meaningful work experiences, opportunities to increase income, career advancement and personal choice
TuscBDD Employment Navigation services connect people with careers that suit their interests.
The program focuses on meaningful work experiences, opportunities to increase income, career advancement and personal choice.
“We start with exploring the person’s interests, then work with other agencies to provide on-the-job training and support throughout the duration of their employment,” said Lou Paris, TuscBDD SSA employment navigator. “Helping people to understand how community and careers go hand in hand is essential. Currently, over 80 people we serve are successfully working in Tuscarawas County.”
The TuscBDD team recently met with a local employer and a recent hire who uses Employment Navigation services. Mecca Moulton, 37, has worked at Dutch Valley Restaurant as a dishwasher for a few months.
Moulton said she enjoys her job, and her coworkers enjoy working with her.
“Dutch Valley Restaurant is extremely supportive in hiring many of the people we serve. When needed, they have also worked with employees to establish a tailored position that gives the person the best chance to succeed while also fulfilling the needs of the restaurant,” Paris said.
The goal of TuscBDD Employment Navigation is to help people find work they enjoy at a place where they can connect with others.
“We work with several companies around the area that utilize our services and hire people with developmental disabilities. If a company is looking to hire, I urge them to reach out to us because we have people looking for employment all the time,” Paris said.
Moulton has worked in other sectors but said she has found the most satisfaction at Dutch Valley. The job makes her feel proud to be part of the team.
Outside of work, Moulton enjoys painting and spending time with her family. She is engaged, and the couple is saving for a home. Their wedding is planned for July 2027.
