New Philadelphia boys win Division II title
The Quakers tied Big Walnut for the state championship in Columbus, earning the program’s first outdoor crown with two individual winners and eight All-Ohio finishes
New Philadelphia’s boys track team had a stellar season from start to finish, beginning with a team state title at the indoor state meet and matching it last weekend with another one in the outdoor finals.
The Quakers added two individual championship trophies and had eight athletes earn All-Ohio status by making the awards podium inside Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus.
The Quakers finished with 41 team points to tie Big Walnut for the Division II state championship. It is the first outdoor state title for New Philadelphia in program history.
Winning state titles for New Philadelphia were seniors Wyatt Lendon in the 1,600-meter run and Marcus Adelman in the 3,200.
Joining that pair as All-Ohioans were senior Alec Adelman, who finished fourth in the 1,600; junior Jaxson Rice and senior Mitchell Miller, who placed third and seventh, respectively, in the high jump; senior Cade Jones, fifth in the pole vault; and the foursome of Lendon, Alec Adelman, senior Kyle Beaber and junior Kevin Smith, who finished fourth in the 4x800 relay.
Senior Caleb Carlisle added an 11th-place finish in the 100-meter dash. Junior Nolan Rosnek placed 12th in the 110-meter hurdles, and the foursome of seniors Myles Tyson, Eric Harris, Jones and Carlisle placed 15th in the 4x100 relay.
