A look back at Holloway’s schools and Main Street
Historic postcard captures Holloway’s Main Street and school
This information is from “Holloway Old Timers Reminisce” by Glenn Helter: “The first school building was on the south side of the railroad and was known as Southside School. The next little frame school building was constructed on the hill, close to the center of town, surrounded by woods. It was reached only by a winding path from any part of town and was known as Northside School.”
The new brick building was completed by October 1911. The school can be seen in the center of this picture. This is Main Street looking from the Piedmont direction toward the Flushing direction.
The Holloway Alumni banquet will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, June 20, at the Old Timers Banquet Hall at the old school site. A slide show of old pictures will be shown. Thank you to Mary Puskarich for sharing her postcard collection and to Frances Reese of Asheville, North Carolina, for sharing her picture collection.
