Harrison Central boys advance athletes to regional track meet
The Harrison Central boys tied for seventh place as a team
The Harrison Central varsity track team competed May 23 in the OHSAA district meet at St. Clairsville, where two Huskies claimed first place and five athletes and two relay teams advanced to regional competition.
Senior Dillon Walters earned a regional berth in the shot put with a throw of 48 feet, 5.5 inches. Tristin Allison took first place in the pole vault, clearing 13 feet, 8 inches.
The Harrison Central boys tied for seventh place as a team. In addition to Allison’s first-place finish, Chase Byers placed third in the pole vault at 13 feet, 4 inches. Triston Cole took third in the 400-meter dash in 51.26 seconds.
The Huskies’ relay teams also advanced, placing second in both the 4x200 and 4x400 relays. The 4x200 team of Brady Hyre, Beau Rinkes, Chaz Culbertson and Cole finished in 1:32.53. The 4x400 team of Hyre, Rinkes, Hunter Fulton and Cole finished in 3:31.15.
Boys team scores were St. Clairsville, first, 142.5; Meadowbrook, second, 96; Beaver Local, third, 82; Edison, fourth, 72; East Liverpool, fifth, 68; Cambridge, sixth; Harrison Central and John Glenn, tied for seventh, 54; and Indian Creek, ninth, 25.
The Harrison Central girls did not advance any team members.
Top girls team scores included Cambridge, first, 77; John Glenn, second, 73; Zanesville, third, 60; Minerva, fourth, 57; West Holmes, fifth, 55; St. Clairsville, sixth, 54.75; Meadowbrook, seventh, 54; Maysville, eighth, 49; Philo, ninth, 45; and Indian Valley, 10th, 36.75.
