The Carroll County Retired Teachers Association held its first meeting of the year April 24 at the Carrollton Bible Chapel.

Members heard from Carrollton High School Alumni Hall of Fame member Craig Winters, who shared his experiences in Carrollton schools from his early years as a student through his career as a teacher, coach and administrator.

Winters also spoke about retrieving a brick from the former school buildings, believed to have been laid by his father, a bricklayer, before the structures were demolished last year.

Following lunch and the program, President Rose Seck conducted the business meeting. Minutes were approved and the treasurer’s report was presented by Joyce Ferguson.

Members voted to donate $200 to the Bell-Herron Scholarship Foundation and discussed the number of scholarships the organization plans to award this year. Committee reports were given by Marlyn Warner, Darlene Smith, Rosemary Dennis, Earl Ferguson and Rose Seck.

John Davis also reported on the Carroll County Foundation, where he and Vickie Campbell serve as board members. The theme for the 2026 programs is “Take Off for the Future: the Best is Yet to Be.” Upcoming meeting dates are June 26, Aug. 28 and Oct. 23. All active and retired teachers from any school system are welcome and encouraged to attend.
