At the May 5 meeting of the Bowerston Community Women’s Club, members organized plans for the upcoming club year.
President-elect Marie Harris said she would like to establish consistent meeting days and times to avoid confusion for new members. After discussion, the group agreed to continue meeting the first Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. at the Bowerston Public Library. Harris noted meetings may shift to Wednesday in November due to elections.
Vice president-elect Debbie Carrothers said she would like to resume scheduled hostesses and light refreshments, while Harris reminded members that planned activities in the past gave members something to anticipate.
A hostess schedule was set for the 2026-27 club year, and the President’s Dinner in September will be held at Pangrazio’s in Dennison. The group agreed to plan activities for the October and April meetings, with the annual white elephant gift exchange in December and the Bible Heart game in February.
Annual dues of $20 per member will be collected at the September and/or October meetings.
In other business, Treasurer Kim Willoughby reported that veterans banners and equipment have been delivered to the village fire station to be displayed before the Memorial Day celebration.
Carrothers said she has prepared the Main Street flower boxes with soil but has delayed planting due to recent cool weather. Flowers will be planted before Memorial Day.
Harris noted this year’s Memorial Day event will be held at Gateway Park due to construction in the village. Willoughby will obtain cookies, snacks and water for distribution at the event.
Carrothers reported she has one additional order for a veterans banner and plans to submit another order to the printer after Memorial Day, when more requests are expected. Application forms will be available at the event.
The group chose not to move forward with a decoration contest discussed in April but will encourage residents to display American flags and patriotic decorations throughout the summer.
The next regular meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, at Pangrazio’s in Dennison.
