New choral leadership at Minerva High School
Sam Darrin of Carrollton was hired to the position at the April meeting of the Minerva Local Board of Education
Minerva High School will have a new vocal music teacher and choir director for the coming school term.
Sam Darrin, son of the Rev. and Mrs. Matthew J. Darrin of Carrollton, was hired to the position at the April meeting of the Minerva Local Board of Education.
Darrin succeeds Debra Imler, who is retiring at the end of the current school year after 33 years of service as vocal music teacher and choir director.
Minerva Superintendent Mark Scott said Minerva Local Schools is proud to welcome Samuel Darrin as the new choir director and vocal teacher. A graduate of the University of Mount Union with a Bachelor of Music in music education, Darrin served as president of the university’s Ohio Collegiate Music Education Association and was a member of the Pi Kappa Lambda Honors Society, Scott said.
“Darrin brings extensive classroom experience to the Lions, having previously served as the choir director at Streetsboro Middle and High Schools. In that role, he directed five choral ensembles and provided private coaching to student soloists preparing for competitions. His background also includes significant work in musical theater, having served as an assistant director, choreographer and pit orchestra conductor for various productions,” Scott said.
“In addition to his school leadership, Darrin has a strong history of community service. He spent a year as a full-time volunteer with Re-Creation USA, performing music therapy for veterans in hospitals nationwide, and has led teams for the Appalachia Service Project to repair homes for those in need,” Scott added.
