Carroll County voters to decide May primary
There is one contested political race for the Jan. 1, 2027, term of Carroll County commissioner
Registered voters will select candidates for the Democratic, Republican and Libertarian parties in the May primary/special election.
The 23 voting precincts in Carroll County will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 5.
There is one contested political race for the Jan. 1, 2027, term of Carroll County commissioner.
Incumbent Donald E. Leggett of 7217 Scio Road, Scio, is being challenged by Ron Eick of 5164 Alliance Road NW, Malvern, for the Republican nomination for the four-year term.
County candidates unopposed for Republican nominations are incumbent County Auditor Staci L. Brady and Jennifer L. Thomas for the six-year term for judge of Common Pleas Court, Probate/Juvenile Court Division, currently held by Judge Sean R.H. Smith, who is not seeking reelection.
There are no contests on the Democratic ballot for any county offices.
Fire levies
Two township fire tax levy renewals also will appear on both political party ballots in Perry and Union townships, where registered voters may vote regardless of political party affiliation, according to Deloris Kean, director of elections.
They include a Perry Township proposal for a 1-mill levy renewal amounting to $35 per $100,000 of the county auditor’s market value for five years, commencing in 2027 and first due in calendar year 2028.
The second levy is a proposed renewal of a 0.7-mill levy for Union Township amounting to $25 per $100,000 of the county auditor’s market value for five years, commencing in 2026 and first due in calendar year 2027.
Ballot candidates
Candidates for U.S. senator include Sherrod Brown and Ron Kincaid, both Democrats; William B. Redpath, Libertarian; and Jon Husted, Republican.
Candidates for Ohio Supreme Court include Marilyn Zayas, Democrat, and Daniel R. Hawkins, Republican, for one seat; and Jennifer Brunner, Democrat, and Republicans Andrew King, Jill Lanzinger, Ronald Lewis and Colleen O’Donnell for another seat.
Candidates for governor and lieutenant governor include Amy Acton, Democrat; Don Kissick, Libertarian; and Republicans Heather Hill, Casey Putsch and Vivek Ramaswamy.
Candidates for attorney general include Democrats Elliot Forhan and John J. Kulewicz and Republican Keith Faber.
Candidates for auditor of state include Democrat Annette Blackwell and Republican Frank LaRose.
Candidates for secretary of state include Democrats Bryan Hambley and Allison Russo; Libertarian Tom Pruss; and Republicans Robert Sprague and Marcell Strbich.
Candidates for treasurer of state include Democrat Seth Walsh and Republicans Jay Edwards and Kristina D. Roegner.
Jennifer L. Thomas, Republican, is a candidate for judge of the Carroll County Court of Common Pleas Probate and Juvenile Division.
Candidates for Carroll County commissioner include Republicans Ron Eick and Donald E. Leggett II.
Staci L. Brady, Republican, is a candidate for Carroll County auditor.
Candidates for U.S. representative, 6th District, include Democrats Sean Connolly, Charles DiPalma, Brent Hanni, Elizabeth Kirtley, Malcolm Ritchie and Adrian Vitus and Republicans Jullie Kelley and Michael A. Rulli.
Candidates for state senator, 33rd District, include Democrat Michael L. Kripchak and Republican Al Cutrona.
Candidates for state representative, 79th District, include Democrat Bob Guy and Republican Monica Robb Blasdel.
Molly K. Johnson, Republican, is a candidate for the 7th District Court of Appeals for one seat, while another seat includes candidates Katherine Rudzik, write-in Democrat, and Republicans David Comstock and Mark Anthony Hanni.
