Ridgewood's Lahmers signs with Marietta College

Ridgewood High School varsity softball pitcher Addison Lahmers recently signed her letter of intent to continue her softball career at Marietta College.

“I first looked at it because my brother goes to Ohio University and my mom liked that it was halfway between here and there,” she said. “Then I realized the academics there were really great, so I reached out to the coach, and they thought I would be a great fit.”

A full tuition scholarship sealed the deal for her.

“I want to major in psychology and minor in biology with the goal of becoming a child psychologist,” Lahmers said. “I tour my ACL my freshman year and was out the whole year. I know what it’s like to have to battle back, and I want to be that person who helps someone get back to where they want to be. I can understand both sides of situations.”

Lahmers is known for her pitching but can play anywhere on the field except catcher.

“I really like that as a pitcher you can control the game and help your team get easy outs,” she said.

Softball has been part of her life for the past 12 years.

“I just love it,” Lahmers said. “It’s such a fun game to play, and you bond with your teammates and learn to rely on each other. I play travel ball in the summer and fall, so I pretty much play all year.”

Two of her favorite memories from playing at Ridgewood are recording 21 strikeouts in last year’s district championship win and reaching 400 career strikeouts.

“I’m sitting at 475 career strikeouts right now, but I’m hoping to get to my goal of 500,” Lahmers said.

She encourages others to keep chasing their dreams of playing sports in college, even when life gets tough.

“Don’t get deterred,” Lahmers said. “It’s a long process, but you will find the right fit for you.”

She thanks her family and coaches for all their support over the years.

“I especially want to thank my dad,” Lahmers said. “He was my biggest motivator and would help me practice pitching and hitting. My coaches also pushed me to be better and helped me see I could catch up even if I missed a year.”
