Barnesville edges Ridgewood in baseball thriller
Ridgewood's seventh-inning rally falls short in 3-2 loss; Lahmers shines in softball win over Crooksville
A seventh-inning surge came up just short for Ridgewood as Barnesville held on for a 3-2 victory in varsity baseball action.
The Shamrocks did all of their damage in the third inning, plating three runs that proved to be the difference. Ridgewood struggled to break through early but made things interesting in the bottom of the seventh.
With two outs the Generals mounted a rally, scoring two runs to cut the deficit to one. However, the comeback stalled with the game-tying run stranded at third base.
Andrew Kinsey and Jace McQueen sparked the late push, each collecting a pair of singles and driving in runs. Jackson Cabot, Brody Harding and Wyatt Marlatt also contributed hits for Ridgewood.
Nathan Lynch took the loss on the mound, working four innings. Logan Ridenbaugh was sharp in relief, tossing three scoreless innings while striking out six.
In varsity softball, Ridgewood's Addison Lahmers turned in another overpowering performance in the circle, striking out 15 and allowing just two hits to lead Ridgewood to a 5-0 win over Crooksville.
Lahmers set the tone early and never let up, walking just one while keeping Crooksville off the scoreboard from start to finish.
She also provided all of Ridgewood’s offense at the plate. Lahmers accounted for the Generals’ only two hits of the game including a triple in the first inning that drove in two runs as part of a three-run outburst.
Ridgewood added insurance in the fourth inning without the benefit of a hit. Britt Bates and Keira Schrock each drew bases-loaded walks to force in two more runs and extend the lead.
