Harrison Central tops Ridgewood for district title
A five-run sixth inning sent the Huskies past Ridgewood 5-2 in the East District final, ending the Generals' season at 20-10
The Harrison Central Huskies captured one of two East District Championships, defeating Ridgewood 5-2 after a decisive sixth-inning surge.
The game remained scoreless through five innings as Ridgewood starter Connor Croy kept the Huskies off balance. Harrison Central finally broke through in the bottom of the sixth, plating all five of its runs to seize control.
Lance Smith delivered the biggest blow of the inning with a three-run double. Kolton Mizer added an RBI single, and Cash Meadows capped the scoring with a sacrifice fly.
Ridgewood mounted a late rally in the top of the seventh, scoring twice and bringing the tying run to the plate with two runners aboard, but the comeback attempt fell short.
Croy turned in a strong performance despite taking the loss. The Generals senior tossed five-plus innings, allowing five earned runs on seven hits while striking out five and walking one.
The Generals were limited to four hits offensively. Andrew Kinsey doubled while Wyatt Marlatt, Jace McQueen and Jackson Cabot each added singles.
Ridgewood closes the season with a 20-10 record.
