Boxers will fight at the Crowtown Throwdown Saturday, June 13 including Mobius Williams.

The 16-year-old Coshocton High School and Coshocton County Career Center student is ranked eighth in the country.

“I started because I wanted to try something new,” Williams said. “I like the self-discipline that comes with it, and the trips are so much fun.”

He’s excited to reach the first of many goals for his boxing career.

“I always wanted to be ranked,” Williams said. “I want to shoot for national and then the professional level. I really want to be seen on TV.”

His coach is Tylar Keith from the Coshocton Boxing Club.

“We have two sides to the club including the fight team, which competes all over the U.S.,” Keith said. “We are youth driven but do have some adults who have worked with me over the years. We want to give kids a place to be mentored, disciplined and put on the right track.”

He started working with Williams about two years ago.

“He’s a phenomenal athlete,” Keith said. “He’s talented, self-disciplined and driven.”

He said fighting is a sport you train for all year long.

“They are in here two hours a day, five to six days a week,” Keith said. “So much work goes into this sport. It’s amazing, and you can’t count on anyone but yourself when you are out there.”

Until Williams' TV days, people can say they saw him and several other up-and-coming fighters first at the Crowtown Throwdown at Kids America, 1600 Otsego Ave., Coshocton. Doors will open at 3 p.m., and the first bell will be at 4 p.m. General admission is $20. For tickets call Keith at 740-610-3726.

“We will have kids from seven different gyms and five different states plus some pros like Buster Douglas show up,” Keith said. “It’s going to be a good event.”

Williams is thankful for the opportunity to compete at the Crowtown Throwdown and other events.

“I want to 100% thank my coach, my mom, and all my friends who supported me and everyone who encouraged me to stick with it and keep going,” he said.

Williams encourages other to always keep pushing.

“Don’t back down and don’t quit,” he said. “When opportunities open up, enjoy them and try new things in life.”
